STI master wing
design is based on a modified Geottingen 387 airfoil
that is inverted, and has various belly depth
configurations, lengths, and widths to meet the
individual racer (race car) needs within the perimeters
of the governing racing body or sanction.
STI racing wings are precision designed and manufactured
with a combination of cad/cam/aerodynamics analysis
computer programs and cnc equipment. What does that
really mean to you? It simply means that each wing
concept is completely engineered*, modeled, and then
tested through two special analysis programs for airflow
co-efficiencies of drag, downforce, and "static"
friction. These two systems also run virtual reality
structural failure and stress fatigue tests as well.
From this point, after the "prototype" design has proven
itself in all perimeters of it's design, it's "ribs" are
then precision machined on STI's own AC-2V-3 Accu-II cnc
vertical milling machine center using a Centroid M400-S cnc system. Each "rib" is "mirrored" (copied) within
0.0001" consistency, "rib" after "rib" until the amount
required for that individual wing is complete.
STI machines each "rib" from 1.50" thick 6061-T6 alloy
into a specially designed "6D" part that not only gives
the wing as an assembly super strength, but makes the
total mass weight equivalent to or less than that of a
stamped sheet-metal "ribbed" wing!
STI uses 0.025" 3003-H14 alloy FAA certified aircraft
"skin" on these wings, depending on size, this then is
sent to our assembly area for hand fitting and weld-up.
Here again, depending on the application, the two (2)
"cross-spars" are usually 1.0" o.d.x 0.050" wall
thickness 6061-T6 tubes that run from right to left,
both in front and the rear of each "rib" to form the
sub-structure. This sub-structure is held in place for
hand mig-welding of the "spars" to the "ribs" by a
specially designed "jig" that insures complete square
and flatness of the total assembly. The next step is to
install the "static-bulbs"** and the "skin" is then welded
on. All end-plates and/or secondary trailing devices are
installed by the customer at the time of mounting the
assembly to the racer.
NOTES:
*any engineering problems are carefully handled by a
hand chosen team of aerospace engineers that are outside
consultants for STI.
** the "static-bulb" is an exclusive STI patented
friction lowering device. Less friction means that the
racer goes faster through the air!

"NO Speed Shop, Auto Parts, or any mail order
catalog performance warehouse can give you a REAL
